In this module, you will learn how winegrowing areas in South Africa are classified under the Wine of Origin system and you will be able to explain the importance of origin and terroir in sourcing grapes for specific wines. You will also be introduced to origin-specific and terroir-driven wines in the Vinimark Portfolio.
In the module you will learn about the dominant cool-climate influences that contribute to making Elgin a top wine-making ward. You will be introduced to three brand partners included in this module and the Chardonnays they produce that are specific to this region.
By the end of this module you will be able to explain the influences of a cool climate on the production of high-quality wines in specific ‘cool climate’ winegrowing areas in the Western Cape and define the influences that contribute to the Walker Bay district cool climate. You will also be able to name the wards that have been established within the Walker Bay district.
By the end of this module, you’ll be able to explain the effect of cool and warm climates on the aromatics of the grape and name the wine growing regions which are classified as “cool climate” areas. You will also be able to identify the geographical locations and winemakers of the six wineries discussed in this module: Constantia Glen, Groot Constantia, Creation, Shannon Vineyards, Darling Cellars, and Nitida.

By the end of this module, you’ll be aware of the dangers of alcohol abuse and have the facts to advocate responsible alcohol consumption. Alcohol consumption can have many effects on the human body. While some effects are short-term and may seem less serious, drinking alcohol can also have detrimental, long-term effects on a person’s health.
